I hadn't been to Madame Mao's Dowry in a long time and was only too happy to rediscover it recently. The shop still stars its life-size statue of Chairman Mao and its impressive collection of communist relics (homeware, photos, and artwork, all for sale) but an exciting pop-up store recently made its way into the world of Madame Mao's Dowry (MMD).
As Linda Johnson puts it "interest in British fashion in China is fresh and vibrant and I can see many reasons for this, not least of which is the talent, creativity and drama of British designers. To feature British design, expertly edited by Fei Space, alongside our existing Chinese designers Zhang Da, He Yan and Jian Ping was too exciting an opportunity to miss. Besides, the pop-up concept allows us to bring the results of Fei's international collaborations directly to Shanghai without any dilution of range or increase in retail price."
Fei Space's pop-up is planned to stay for a year with regular infusions of new stock.
